Apply for the U.S. Diversity Visa (Green Card) Lottery

The U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, also known as the Green Card Lottery, is an annual program that grants up to 55,000 immigrant visas to individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.

Winners of the lottery are given the opportunity to apply for permanent residency (Green Card), which allows them to live and work in the United States.

Important Dates for DV-2027

• Application Period: Expected to start on October 2, 2025 and close on November 7, 2025.
• Results Announcement: Expected on May 3, 2026, and results will remain available until September 30, 2026.

            Note: Official dates will be confirmed by the U.S. Department of State as the application period approaches.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the DV Lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Country of Birth: You must be born in a country that is eligible for the program.
• Education or Work Experience:

The minimum academic requirement to apply for the U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery is as follows:

1. Educational Qualification

Applicants must have:

• Completed high school education or its equivalent in the United States.
• This means 12 years of formal primary and secondary education.
• Alternative certificates like the GED are not accepted.

2. Work Experience (Alternative to Education)

If the applicant does not meet the educational requirement, they may still qualify if they have:

• At least two years of work experience within the last 5 years.
• The work must be in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience.
• Eligible occupations are listed in the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*NET Online database and must fall under Job Zone 4 or 5 with an SVP rating of 7.0 or higher.

Important Note: Failing to meet either the education or work experience requirement will make the applicant ineligible, even if they win the lottery.
